Forest School and Homework 27.1.23

Posted: Jan 27, 2023 by: Year 2 (Year 2) on: Year 2 Class Blog

Today was our Big Birdwatch day in Forest School.  Last week we prepared our outdoor areas by making lots of birdfeeders and hanging them all around.  Today, the children carefully counted the number of birds they spotted.  Here are some photos showing the fun they had.

Please show your child these films to help them consolidate the sound work that they have done in school this week:

Please listen to your child read at least 3 times per week.  Ask them questions to check their understanding.  Talk about what they enjoyed and ask them to summarise the text.

Important:

Some children are not coming to school with their little, yellow, spelling book.  These books are collected in on Wednesday/Thursday and usually returned on Friday.  I have kept them this week to make a note of which books I have not had.  Those children that are regularly handing their books in to me are now much more confident with the Y1 and Y2 list of common exception words (reading of and spelling).  To get the expected standard in reading and writing, children should be able to read and spell the majority of these words.  Please practise little and often at home and keep the book in their bookbags so that it is available when needed.  Some children are getting upset that they haven't remembered their book when I call them to practise, therefore, keeping it in their bag would make things much easier for them.  Books will be returned on Monday.

Have a great weekend.
