Week Commencing 12th September

Posted: Sep 11, 2022 by: Year 3 (Year 3) on: Year 3 Class Blog

Hi Year 3 and Year 3 grownups,

Wow! What a fantastic first week back and a great start to the new school year. Everyone has done a fantastic job of settling in to the new routine and have reminded me and the other class adults just how super you are.

We've hit the ground running in our new Literacy topic of instruction writing, and the children are already experts in knowing what shapes we need to feature in a good piece of instructional text. We even had a go at making a paper boat (though Miss Castleton's didn't quite go to plan...). But the key take away from that lesson was that it doesn't matter if we face a challenge and don't get it right the first time. We now know a calming technique that we all tried to help us relax and start again and I'm looking forward to seeing children practice using this at home and in school when faced with a challenge. Remember- practice makes perfect!

In forest school, we practiced following instructions by making three different types of bird feeders, which are all now hanging beautifully from our trees next to the KS2 fire circle. Although I think the squirrels might be having a nibble too!

In maths, Year 3 have made a brilliant start at looking at the place value of hundreds and how these can be represented. And we've found a new favourite song to help us with our 8 times tables! Here's the link if you'd like to have a sing along at home https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9nX8YlhDDcc

In DT, we've been learning all about where food comes from and watched a tasty demonstration of fish and chips made with cornflakes! It would be fantastic to see children applying their new learning from DT to help with cooking tasks at home. I've made a Kahoot that the children asked to practice with at home- let's see how much they remember! https://kahoot.it/challenge/06398870?challenge-id=099159e3-3964-4483-8f12-c041051c95c5_1661077004363

We have much more exciting new learning this week and I can't wait to see some more brilliant work being produced.

Here is this week's timetable- Just a polite reminder that children need to have wellies in order to participate in Forest school and need to wear the new PE kit. If you have any questions about this please do get in touch.

Homework task to be completed for Thursday 15th: Design a 3 course menu for a wild animal (the children have received a print out version to complete at home).

Here are some pictures below of children participating in literacy, reading for pleasure in our reading area and a sneak peek of what our classroom set up is for Year 3 at the moment!

Can't wait to see you all tomorrow for another great week.

Love from,
