Week Commencing 12th September

Posted: Sep 16, 2022 by: Year 3 (Year 3) on: Year 3 Class Blog

Hi Year 3 and Year 3 grownups,

We've had another brilliant week in Year 3; selecting our new school councillors, participating in Roald Dahl Day activities and even baking bread!

Congratulations to Isabella and Sam on becoming our new school councillors! We know that you both have shown our school values since joining Year 3 and had some brilliant ideas on what you are going to contribute to the school. Well done to all of the children who wrote speeches, you were all fantastic and it was definitely a tricky decision for the class to make!

We've continued to hit the ground running in our new Literacy topic of instruction writing, and the children even had the chance to make their own set of instructions on How to Make George's Marvellous Medicine in Forest School!

In Science, children got their hands dirty and did a blind test feeling different processed foods and guessing what they were. There were beans, yoghurt, Weetabix...I wonder if they can remember any more? Then we discussed why these were classed as processed foods and whether they were healthy or unhealthy foods. They did an excellent job at debating this and showed our school value of respect when validating their points.

In maths, we have been continuing to look at place value of up to 1000 and the children are developing their understanding of the many different ways that we can partition our numbers up to 1000. And still love the times tables song so here it is again for a bit of weekend karaoke: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9nX8YlhDDcc

In DT, we continue to explore our topic of Field to Fork and children are now extremely confident in explaining where food comes from, what processed foods are and how seasons affect food. We listened to a lovely story called Tree: Seasons Come and Seasons Go which you can listen to at home with your children to consolidate their understanding of the frour seasons.- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JkdqzJ7LyFY

The children loved making their mini bread loaves in DT, and were able to explain the processes of how bread is made such as (the grinding of wheat to flour, adding the 5 key ingredients, kneading the dough and baking in the oven). See below for pictures of the before and after!

The Kahoot is still available for children to practice their DT learning  at home- let's see how much they remember! https://kahoot.it/challenge/06398870?challenge-id=099159e3-3964-4483-8f12-c041051c95c5_1661077004363

Next week we will continue to explore how land is used in our Geography lesson, continue with instruction writing in literacy,  place value in maths and Field to Fork topic.

Here is this week's timetable- Just a polite reminder that children need to have wellies in order to participate in Forest school and need to wear the new PE kit. If you have any questions about this please do get in touch.

Timetable

Thank-you to all the children who completed their 3 course menu for a wild animal. I loved learning all about the different foods that the animals eat! Homework task to be completed for Thursday 22nd: Children to write a 2-day food diary so that we can review these in our next science lesson to learn more about what food groups we eat the most of. This will be a great interactive task for children to use in their lesson so participating in the homework task will be really beneficial.

Here are some pictures below of children participating in our Forest School (making instructions for George's Marvellous Medicine) and baking bread in DT.

Have a great weekend and we will see you all on Tuesday!
