Week Commencing 26th September

Hi Year 3 and Year 3 grownups,

I hope you've all had a lovely weekend and are ready for a new and exciting week ahead!

The children have done so well in their independent writing for our Literacy topic of instruction writing, I can see some great writing features being showcased in work. We will continue to expand on the inclusion of these features this upcoming week in our literacy lesson and have another exciting experience day coming up!

In Science, we've learnt all about the 5 food groups and can name examples of these food groups. Thank-you to all the children who completed the previous week's homework task of keeping a food dairy, as this helped the children to generate their data in the form of tally charts and bar models (a new skill for Year 3!) and helped them to identify which food groups they eat most of. We even measured the amount of sugar found in just one can of Pepsi and we were all shocked at just how much can be found!

In maths, we revisited number lines up to 1000 and I can see that children are feeling much more confident in using our steps to success to complete number lines. They are also definitely on their way to becoming experts in the their 8 times tables thanks to your home karaoke sessions!

In DT, we continued to explore our topic of Field to Fork and Miss Johnson awarded every child a house point for their outstanding knowledge of where food comes from, what happens to food to make it safe to eat, and how seasons affect food. This week in DT the children will start to design their menu's and prepare for our restaurant day. Our restaurant experience will be taking place the week before half term and will be an opportunity for you to come into the classroom and try your child's three course meal. Final details will be communicated out by the end of next week.

The Kahoot is still available for children to practice their DT learning  at home- let's see how much they remember! https://kahoot.it/challenge/06398870?challenge-id=099159e3-3964-4483-8f12-c041051c95c5_1661077004363

Next week we will continue to explore how land is used in our Geography lesson, continue with instruction writing in literacy,  place value in maths and Field to Fork topic.

Here is this week's timetable.

Timetable

Homework task to be completed for Friday 23rd: Children to investigate how much sugar is in one of their favourite foods (the findings can be written on paper or photographed). This will be a great interactive task to generate excitement and consolidate knowledge in their next science and literacy lesson. Please ensure your child is also reading at least 3 times a week and practicing their 8 times tables.

Here are some pictures below of children participating in our last Forest School session (creating self-portraits, influenced by the works of Frieda Khalo)
