Summer Term 1 Week 5 15.05.23
FS 2 (Foundation 2) on: F2 Class Blog
Hello children and grown ups of F2.
I hope you all had a lovely weekend and are ready to search faithfully for excellence once again.
Here is our learning timetable for this week: F2 Timetable - week 5 15-05-23.docx
The children will have a lovely sweet treat in Literacy this week as they will be tasting chocolate cake to ignite vocabulary related to our taste buds before having the opportunity to make their own 'cake in a mug'. We will watch Michael Rosen's video Chocolate Cake and this will hopefully inspire the children to write their own cake in a mug recipe with instructions, recapping over our DT vocabulary from Spring 1 (measure, mix, stir) and our bossy verbs from the beginning of this term.
Our subtraction learning continues this week and we will use the following videos to help us along the way: Subtraction Magic, Subtraction with Puff Balls and Subtraction song. We will create a number sentence using counting bears and practically take bears away to find the missing number, using the key subtraction vocabulary. We will then use a 10 frame before using a number line to count backwards to find the missing number.
In Topic this week, we will be learning all about caterpillars and butterflies as our very own classroom caterpillars have arrived. We will learn how to take care of our caterpillars and watch them transform into beautiful butterflies.
We will also be fitting in on lots of Gospel Assembly practise throughout the week, ready to show our grown-ups on Thursday afternoon at 2.30pm. Here is the song again that we will be singing to (in case you haven't heard it enough over the weekend!) Every Move I Make
If you have any questions, comments or concerns, you can contact me on f2@olsj.org.uk and I will reply as soon as I can. For anything urgent, please email school@olsj.org.uk

Homework Week 4 12.05.23
FS 2 (Foundation 2) on: F2 Class Blog
Hello children and grown-ups of F2.
This week your child will have come home with their NumBots login details. NumBots is an online maths game which supports children with their understanding, recall and fluency in mental addition and subtraction, so that they move from counting to calculating. Please encourage your child to have a play on the game and see what level they can get up to.
Your child may have also brought home their line for Gospel Assembly next Thursday. Please support your child in learning their line, saying it in a loud, clear voice. Please note, if your child has not brought a line home, it is because they have specifically asked for a non speaking role in the Assembly. The children will be singing Every Move I Make, it is a very catchy song, enjoy singing and dancing to it over the weekend.
For your home learning this week:
- Please read your books that has come home in your book bag today at least 3 times. (Don’t forget to return last week’s book by Friday morning).
- Access the links below to practice your sounds and blending.
- Play on NumBots and see how many levels you can get to.
- Practice your line and singing our song for Gospel Assembly.

Summer Term 1 Week 4 08-05-23
FS 2 (Foundation 2) on: F2 Class Blog
Hello children and grown ups of F2.
I hope you all had a lovely long coronation weekend.
Here is our learning timetable for this week: F2 Timetable - week 4
In Literacy we will be recapping over all the interesting facts and information we learned last week about bees. The children had a very busy day last Friday with the coronation celebrations and meeting their Y6 buddies before their SATs start today, and so did not get a chance to do their independent write so we will do it this week. Remember children, I am looking for capital letters, finger spaces, full stops and it makes sense.
In Maths, we are focusing on subtraction to find the missing number for the next two weeks. We will begin the week practically with subtraction stories before moving onto subtraction with 10 frames and then remembering some subtraction facts within 10 without equipment.
I will be sending home some number formation support work this week, please encourage your child to correctly form the numbers, starting and finishing at the correct points. Thank you x
In Topic, we will be practising our sewing skills :) We will begin the week weaving on a large scale before working on our hand-eye coordination skills threading a needle and doing a basic running stitch. Wish us luck!
Last week you were given the RWI sounds that your child has learned already in school, is currently learning in school or will be in the future. An idea to use this sounds would be to cut them up as flashcards and show them to your child for them to speedily say the sound (like they do in the RWI videos on the home learning blogs). Someone also had a lovely idea of playing schools with them, the child being the teacher holding a RWI session for their grown-ups. Please let me know if you need any support with the sounds.
If you have any questions, comments or concerns, you can contact me on f2@olsj.org.uk and I will reply as soon as I can. For anything urgent, please email school@olsj.org.uk
