Year 5 Class Blog

Week Commencing 6th December

Year 5 (Year 5) on: Year 5 Class Blog

Good evening year 5

Here is next week's timetable - Week 6

In the exciting lead up to Christmas, we are going to see a pantomime next week and we also have the Christmas fayre! We are going to be making our final loaf of bread in DT - the French baguette

Remember if you are bringing your advent candles home this week then the video link is here - Y5 Advent Story.mp4. Or you can find it in the parents folder. It would be wonderful if you could take this small opportunity to spent time sharing the Christmas Story.

Please come in PE kit on Tuesday and forest school kit on Friday.

For homework this week please could you carry on completing a bedrock unit, a spelling shed unit and spend some time on TT rockstars.

If you have any other questions, you can email me on y5@olsj.org.uk and I will respond to emails as soon as I can throughout the week.

Let's continue searching faithfully for excellence throughout the rest of the term!

Science

Year 5 (Year 5) on: Year 5 Class Blog

In science today we tested materials to see if they were soluble or insoluble. The children worked really hard and got some good results. They were also able to use our key words to describe what was happening when they added a substance to water. This determined if a material was soluble or insoluble.

Zopf Bread

Year 5 (Year 5) on: Year 5 Class Blog

Today we continued our breadmaking topic in DT and made zopf bread which originates from Switzerland. The children did a fantastic job yet again!

This was the end result.

Well done year 5 :)

Week Commencing 29th November

Year 5 (Year 5) on: Year 5 Class Blog

Good morning!

Here is this week's timetable - Week 5.

As the lead up to Christmas begins, on Thursday we will start making reindeer food and a sign for our Christmas fayre stall.

Also, during the next three weeks, your child will bring an advent bag home. This will hold a candle and a prayer. On the day the bag comes home, you and your child can watch our special Advent video which is in the parent files below and called ‘Advent 2021’ or by clicking here - Y5 Advent Story.mp4.

Bread Making - White Bread

Year 5 (Year 5) on: Year 5 Class Blog

This morning year 5 made white bread in their DT lesson.

They all did such a fantastic job following the recipe and working in their teams. We mixed ingredients, kneaded the dough, proved it and then shaped it. Once this was all complete we cooked the bread in the oven and it looked amazing! We were able to try it at the end of the day and it tasted as good as it looked.

Well done year 5 :)

Just a reminder that it is our school trip to St Pius tomorrow so remember to bring a packed lunch.
